The Speech & Career Center is a vision from God! It’s his dream he called me to steward which is truly an honor. It was birthed from my passion to enhance the communication skills of children and adolescents all while incorporating functional activities they engage in during their daily lives. I truly believe all children have a purpose in our world. I’m driven and motivated to ensure the individuals we work with have the communication skills they need in order to contribute to and participate in their communities.
Teaching new speech and language concepts in a private, quiet therapy room and providing the individual with lots of repetition is very important, so that the skills can be learned. However, my favorite part of the process is expanding outside of the speech walls and conducting therapy in more naturalistic settings to support generalization of skills. I love heading to Panera Bread, Starbucks, the Ice Cream Dairy, or even the kitchen for speech therapy. It’s a great way to help children, adolescents, and young adults understand that communication skills aren’t to be used just in the therapy room. I also like to incorporate real life skills into therapy lessons when working with my older kiddos and the young adult population. Helping them to prepare for extracurricular activities, finances, college and careers, or simply filling out a job application is another passion of mine. To support them, I incorporate those important areas into therapy as I target their speech and language goals. Watching my clients achieve their SPEECH and future CAREER goals is such an amazing, exciting feeling!
I received both my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Akron. While completing my graduate studies, I received specialty training in working with children with hearing loss using the listening and spoken language approach. I am licensed by The Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence from The American Speech and Hearing Association.
I have experience in private practice, schools, long-term care facilities, and home health setting. During my time as a speech therapist, I have served children with autism, down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, cerebral palsy, specific learning disabilities, and emotional disturbances.
I am a devoted wife to my beloved husband, Ron and a new mommy to our beautiful two year old daughter, Brenna. I’m a former collegiate volleyball player. I love playing in competitive recreation leagues. I also enjoy lifting, taking walks, and spending time with my family.
